Nylon trolley caster wheels

Nylon trolley caster wheels are incredibly strong and provide high load capacities, excellent wear and tear resistance and can cope with occasional impact without fracture, and in addition are relatively inexpensive compared to other materials with comparable properties.

Nylon trolley caster wheels also provide Non-Marking characteristics to protect flooring surfaces. They have Low Roll Resistance which reduces user fatigue and are resistant to mane chemical substances and fluids and they are ideal for applications that require regular wash down and cleaning.

The two most common grades of Nylon are Nylon 6 and Nylon 66. These grades provide excellent properties, whilst maintaining their low cost, compared to some other Nylons.

Nylon is a Thermoplastic, which means that it will melt at high temperatures. Nylon 6 and Nylon 66 have a melting temperature of 220ᵒC and 265ᵒC respectively, making them an ideal material for Injection Moulding and can be processed extremely easily.

Due to the High melting point of Nylon, the Castor Wheels can operate up to +80ᵒC without degradation. Nylon Wheels can also be used in Low tempertures of -30ᵒC.

The above mechanical properties and factors allow Nylon trolley caster wheels to be used in diverse applications such as food processing equipment, walk in refrigerators, Portable Industrial Equipment such as Pumps & Compressors. They are also commonly used in the domestic environment, for example chair wheels, due to their economical price point.

Advantages of Nylon trolley caster wheels

There are many different choices when you’re selecting castor wheels to use for your project, and it’s not necessarily the case that any one type is always better than the others, but that some types are better suited to certain applications and environments.

When you’re making a cart or trolley primarily for indoor use on surfaces that are smooth and flat, nylon will normally be the best choice. Here are some reasons:

Lower cost. Quite simply, the supply chain for nylon is much shorter than the supply chain for rubber, resulting in a lower cost product.
Tough and durable. The nylon used for making caster wheels is very hard, and will take a long time to wear out.
Smooth rolling. Again, due to their hardness, they glide more easily over surfaces such as tile and polished hardwood.
Better able to withstand temperature extremes and variations. As a natural product, rubber is likely to degrade faster when subjected to extremes of either heat or cold, and is more likely to be affected by humidity. Nylon is 100% synthetic, so it copes much better in a wider range of conditions.
There are times when nylon won’t be the best choice, however. You should choose an alternative material such as rubber if:

The product of your project will be used mainly outdoors. Heavy duty rubber wheels provides much better traction on a wider range of surface types.
Your product needs to support immense loads. Generally, nylon wheels have a smaller diameter than rubber wheels and can support loads up to 500kg. Beyond that, you’ll most likely need rubber, as the better flexibility of rubber will allow it to distribute the downward forces more easily.
For carpeted environments. The softer and thicker the carpet is, the more a nylon wheel is likely to struggle to get across it. The smaller tyre width makes a nylon wheel more likely to sink into soft surfaces.
If you need to negotiate steps or large bumps. The “give” in rubber tyres makes them better at dealing with obstacles. Rubber tyres also support much larger diameters, making it easier to cope with large steps.
On sloping floors. Nylon wheels are smoother and harder than other wheels, so they roll easily. That’s normally an advantage, but not when there is a slope in the floor, when you’ll want more traction.
On ships. The pitching and rolling motion of a ship at sea creates an “artificial slope”, giving the same problem as described above.

6 Essential Criteria For Selecting The Best Caster Wheel

A caster is more than just a wheel. In fact, it is often considered as the evolution of the wheel because of the myriad of uses one gets out of it. Since casters have been around for so long, they have branched out into various types of wheels. So how does one select the best leveling caster?

We need to consider multiple factors when shopping for the best leveling caster wheels. Once you have narrowed down what you want out of your caster, you will be able to select the ideal caster wheels for your line of work:

Types of Caster

There are two main types of casters available in the market, and every other type of caster is a sub-type of those two options. These are:

Swivel Casters – These caster wheels can rotate 360 degrees, which is why they offer high maneuverability and are perfect for moving heavy loads around the warehouse. They can be used to move industrial equipment and furniture. The bigger the wheel, the larger the load it can carry. There are different types of swivel casters, including kingpinless casters, stem casters, locking casters, and plate casters

Rigid Casters – As the name suggests, rigid casters are fixed in place or “rigid.” They simply feature a wheel between a bracket, so there is no swivel motion. Rigid leveling caster wheels are perfect for moving hefty loads around the warehouse. Since there is no swivel, the rigid caster can only maneuver the object forward or backward, which helps carry heavy loads. Most rigid casters come with a brake, which helps control movement.

Kingpinless Swivel Casters – These casters are a special type of swivel caster that eliminates all the shortcomings of a swivel caster. A regular swivel caster is held together by a kingpin, which bears all the stress that the caster undergoes. So a traditional swivel caster gives in under very high loads and rough surfaces. A Kingpinless Swivel Caster is not held by a bolt or rivet, which is why it can bear higher stress levels, making it more durable under heavy loads or rough surfaces.

Load Bearing

Keep in mind the kind of load you will need to move around to select the best type of caster for it. The heavier the load, the bigger the wheel you must use. Having a load measurement on hand is helpful. For example, a load that is over 250 pounds will require bearings.

The load of the object is not the only load you have to consider, though. Keep the shock load or the impact load in mind as well. This refers to the impact that the cart experiences the moment it receives a load or when the cart bumps into an obstruction or a rough surface. The maximum load your cart will have to bear will determine the kind of caster perfect for it.

Wheel Type

The most important consideration for a leveling caster wheel is its size. Larger wheels can bear heavier loads and are easy to maneuver. Naturally, for higher loads, you will need a larger wheel.

Other than that, the material and finish of the wheel will also determine its durability in your line of work. Common materials used to make wheels include soft rubber, hard rubber, and steel. Steel wheels are resistant to most chemical damage and rusting and can also bear heavy loads. Rubber wheels are not harsh to most types of flooring, do not cause noise pollution, and are resistant to harsh weather conditions.

The type of tread is also crucial when selecting a wheel. The two main types of tread are donut and flat. A donut tread does not cause sound pollution and cushion against obstructions in the wheel’s path. Flat wheel treads can carry large loads.

Bearing

If your caster requires bearings, here are the main types:

Plain bearings – These are the most commonly used bearings. They are inexpensive, lightweight, and com
